Description: It's in a strip mall, but warm, earthy hues and plush carpet give Monteaux's an industrial family-room feel. Craftsman lamps hang from warehouse-high ceilings over spacious booths and round wooden tables. The staff is quick with conversation and dotes on customers--business lunchers, happy-hour imbibers and families alike.

The menu emphasizes comfort, with rich dishes and huge portions. Nachos are piled high with all the fixings, and Cajun calamari is crispy and addictive. Burgers abound--just emphasize how you want yours cooked unless you like it well done. Stick to the simpler pub fare, because more upscale items are pricey and preparation can be heavy-handed. Stuffed halibut swims in a too-creamy dill sauce, drowning the crab and shrimp filling. Orzo tastes only of butter, and accompanying vegetables, while crisp, can be cold. Skip the overly sweet and clumpy crème brûlée in favor of the brownie sundae.
